Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small barred grand design spiral galaxy located 45 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of -8 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13.2 galaxy which spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years. From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about 25 degrees from edge-on.

Because the galaxy is relatively close, we can see a lot of disk detail including dark lanes, star clouds and HII regions.  The glorious pair of arms extend out for 360 degrees from the long bar.
