Description

This is probably my favorite image from galaxy season this year. I really like the framing with the fireworks galaxy and the nearby open cluster along with all the background stars. Sometimes galaxy images with narrow fields of view feel a bit lonely to me when there aren't a lot of stars in the frame. Of course, the fireworks galaxy itself is relatively small for my rig (about 300px wide I think) and I don't see a much of the blue in the spiral arms, but it feels like there is a lot of activity in the picture. I even quickly noticed a small background galaxy near the open cluster (PGC64824) that is quite visible.

I took a new set of dark images for my camera too for this image; it has been a year since the last set, and I think the new set helped take out more bad pixels and gives a little lower background noise than the old ones do. I suppose it makes sense that the CMOS chip ages a bit with use.
