Description

Messier 33, also known as the Triangulum Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Triangulum, about 3 million light-years away from Earth. It is the third-largest galaxy in the Local Group, which also includes the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. Messier 33 is characterized by its spiral arms, young blue stars, and pinkish H II regions where new star formation is occurring. The galaxy is relatively close to Earth, making it a popular target for astronomers studying the properties of spiral galaxies. It was named after the French astronomer Charles Messier, who included it in his catalog of non-stellar objects in 1764.
