Description

IC 63 is a reflection nebula illuminated by the nearby bright star Gamma Cassiopeiae. The designation "IC" stands for Index Catalog, and IC 63 is the 63rd object in the Index Catalog of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars. The object is often referred to as the "Ghost of Cassiopeia" due to its ethereal appearance. Gamma Cassiopeiae is a variable star that exhibits irregular changes in brightness, and its intense radiation causes the surrounding dust to glow faintly, revealing the intricate patterns of the nebula.

This bright target is a fairly easy target for newbies or for those who want to accomplish a full integration in one evening. Beside the reflections in RGB channels, this target emits strongly in the Ha frequency which can be used to bring forth more intensity in the reddish regions. It is easily captured even in heavily light polluted skies.
