Description

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is an emission nebula showing glowing ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes. In the center of the Heart Nebula are young stars from the open star cluster Melotte 15 that are eroding away several picturesque dust pillars with their energetic light and winds.

16.5 hours total integration time using narrowband Ha, OIII and SII filters and 30 minute exposures. Processed here in the Hubble Palette.
