Description

The Coma cluster is a beautiful and very large area in the Constellation of Coma Berenices. It is estimated to have over 1000 galaxies and is 320 million LY from earth. The central region is dominated by 2 giant galaxies NGC4874 and NGC4889. In 1933 Fritz Zwicky showed that the galaxies in the coma were moving too fast for the cluster to be bound together by the visible matter of its galaxies, he wrote that the galaxies must be held together by dark matter, an idea that took another 50 years to be accepted!.  Galaxy season calls for this beauty to be photographed. It is amazing that is possible to capture all this immensity just from the backyard.
