Description

From the mid-1960s to 1972, I worked as a consultant for the Apollo moon landing program. The office in my kid´'s room was equipped accordingly :-). So of course I had to draw the Apollo 11 landing site in the northern part of the Mare Tranquilitatis.

To the south is the small lava basin Sinus Asperitatis. It forms the transition to Mare Nectaris with its crater Theophilus (4200m / 13800ft deep) with the impressive central mountain.

I also find Rupes Altai worth mentioning. The cliff is about 430 km / 267 mi long (Cologne - Hamburg / Los Angeles - Las Vegas) and up to one kilometer / 3300 ft high. It is the longest cliff on the moon but not always clearly visible depending on the light situation. It runs almost vertically to the bottom of this image . Rupes Altai forms the south-western boundary of the Mare Nectaris impact basin.

Image processing:

Gain: 148

Exposure: 2,8 ms

- Pre-Processing with PIPP because of bad tracking

- Stacking 1 % of 3000 Frames = 30 with Autostakkert! incl. sharpening.

- Post-processing with Lightroom (little additional sharpening, denoising, light balance)
