A continued journey through a back log of images that I have not processed or actually completed. I really like the framing present on the surrounding nebulosity. I had a hard time finding the right color and saturation balance with this image. I think this version was my 4th time going through it from scratch. Of late, I am using Noise Xterminator and wow is it a game and time changer. I added the RGB stars from the previous weeks OSC image with ASi 294 MC.

So after I posted the initial image, my curiosity took its opportunity to add more resolution to the actual column of the trunk. Utilizing my Ha Lum layer from the RASA 8 image from last year, I managed to achieve better definition.

NGC 1396 A is a large column of gas within the larger interstellar gas cloud and open cluster of NGC 1396. Located in the constellation of Cephus, the formation is roughly 2,400 light years from earth and the tower column is thought to be nearly 20 light years in height. New star star formation is clearly occurring and several large new stars can be seen in the column with some at the end of the trunk evacuating the gas through solar winds.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
