Description

The Pleiades (M45) - a "Blue Wonder"

Tip: Have fun viewing my custom made astrometry layer   in version B.

On November 8th, 2023, there are signs of a clear night again for a long time. The moon had already set at 3 pm and will not appear again in the east until 12 hours later.

The nights are long at this time of year, so there is hope for a series of recordings lasting several hours. In fact, the setup, alignment and preparation for recording control worked well and so I was able to start taking photos around 8 pm and collect the light from the Pleiades for four hours

The Pleiades star cluster, also known as the "Seven Sisters"  or "Subaru" and listed under the name M45 in the catalog of astronomer Charles Messier, actually consists of at least 400 stars. In binoculars they appear as a glittering treasure chest.

The Pleiades are 456 light years away from our Earth. That's the only reason why it looks like the hot blue stars are close together.
