Located approximately 4580 light-years away in the constellation Serpens, it is close to the galactic plane. It has a group of young stars that formed from the same molecular cloud and still has stars in formation. Even the central region of the H II region has stars in formation (Sh2-54), as we can see in this image that I recorded with only 6 minutes of exposure. The cluster is still undergoing star formation and contains several massive OB-type stars, such as HD 167971 and HD 168112, which are super-luminous in their X-ray emission and large amount of ultraviolet radiation can ionize the gas around them and form regions of HII. Localizado aproximadamente 4580 anos luz de distância na constelação de Serpens, está próximo plano galáctico. Possui um grupo de estrelas jovens que se formaram da mesma nuvem molecular, inclusive possui estrelas em formação ainda, como podemos ver na região central da nebulosa de emissão de hidrogênio (região de H II) dessa imagem capturada com apenas 6 minutos de exposição. As estrelas do aglomerado pertencem à classe espectral tipo O ou B, o que significa que são muito quentes e massivas (azuis) e que surgiram há apenas 6,5 milhões de anos. O aglomerado ainda está passando por formação estelar e contém várias estrelas massivas do tipo OB, como HD 167971 e HD 168112, que são super-luminosas em sua emissão de raios X e grande quantidade de radiação ultravioleta, que pode ionizar o gás ao seu redor e formar regiões de HII.
