Description

Enjoying using the C8HD at the focal length of 2200mm to get in nice and close to this target.
Had an issue with distorted stars on the first night of capture. Checked the usual things as you do but nothing fixed it, so it was a bit of a head scratcher!!
After some research, found the issue was actually heating the corrector plate dew ring too much! I had the full 12v going to it, so dropped it down to 7.5 and the issue was fixed once the plate had cooled down!

Here is some info (wiki) re the Gum catalog, such beautiful southern targets!!
The Gum catalog is an astronomical catalog of 84 emission nebulae in the southern sky. It was made by the Australian astronomer Colin Stanley Gum (1924-1960) at Mount Stromlo Observatory using wide field photography. Gum published his findings in 1955 in a study entitled A study of diffuse southern H-alpha nebulae which presented a catalog of 84 nebulae or nebular complexes.
