Description

The Fireworks Galaxy in Cygnus

While this object has been imaged before with another camera, this attempt was my first use of the new WeightedBatchPreProcessing Version 2.4.5 in PixInsight 1.8.9-1, where separate R, G and B master lights could be automatically created from the original OSC data. Supposedly this route will improve upon red and blue ended color halos which may occur towards the outer frame edges with certain type optical designs like SCTs.

Also, starless processing was performed on the galaxy core and arms after using StarXTerminator. Then processes such as TGVDenoise, LocalHistogramEqualization, UnsharpMask and CurvesTransformation were used to refine details before adding the stars back using PixelMath. However, I should mention that the stars added back were not those generated in the Star Mask output from StarX, but were created by subtracting the starless image from a clone of the primary RGB combination, which retains more of the original RGB star colors than those created by the other route. Thanks to Warren Keller for his tips on using his special PixelMath equations for performing these actions.
