Description

This galaxy is known as 'the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy' for its distinct bar-shaped nucleus and gigantic spiral arms. It is about 65 million light-years away and 200,000 light-years across, roughly twice the size of our own Milky Way Galaxy.

The bar plays an essential role in the galaxy's evolution, drawing gas and dust into a star-forming maelstrom. Young stars are born in the outer skirts, aging as they migrate towards the core, and are eventually engulfed by a supermassive black hole in the centre. What a life for a star.
