Description

My first attempt at imaging a star cluster! This is Messier 3: a globular cluster first (mis)identified by Messier in the mid 1700's (he thought it was a nebula). This cluster of over half a million stars has one the largest density of variable magnitude stars identified in any known globular cluster.

This one took a fair bit of different processing than I'm used to in order to bring out the high dynamic range. Unfortunately, the very core of the cluster was washed out in magenta (due to slight differences in focus between the RGB filters compounded by how close the stars are in the core of the cluster), so I lost a bit of color in the center. But not too bad.

I can't unsee the happy smile in the 11 o'clock position
