Description

The Blue Flash Nebula is a planetary nebula in the constellation Delphinus not too far in our sky from the Dumbbell Nebula. It lies at a distance of roughly 7,500 light years. The central star is magnitude 14.0 and the central shell is 47” by 34” in size.

I had taken OIII and Ha over several nights, and blinked the subs as usual. At that point I had 117 300 second subs in OIII and 45 600 second subs in Ha. After using WBPP the result was just not as sharp as I wanted, so I 're-blinked' and selected only the best 53 OIII subs and 14 Ha subs. The integrated result from only these sub frames was much sharper. Obviously the total integration time was lower, but this object is fairly bright so the noise did not become overpowering.

One thing that struck me when I was processing this image is just how sharp the outer edges appear.

Hope you like it,
Bob
