Description

Hello astro-friends,
Some old picture from summer 2022… I know, I’m pretty lazy here, sorry :-)))

This is one of my favorite targets in the summer sky I love to visit every year. NGC7000, aka the North America Nebula, and IC5070, aka The Pelican Nebula, are huge emission nebulas ionized by nearby stars and « merged » with dark nebulas in front of them, around 1’900 l-y away in the constellation Cygnus.

For this image, I wanted to highlight the area called « The Cygnus Wall », which is the southern part of NGC7000, shaped like the Central America surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico. This part is home of stars formation. The large dust cloud on the eastern side is cataloged LDN 935 (Lynds’ Catalog of Dark Nebulae) and makes the boundaries between North America and The Pelican (not shown on my image).
NGC7000 itself is a merge of half-dozen of bright nebulas, named after Lynds’ Catalog of Bright Nebulae (LDN). In the upper part of the image are two embedded open clusters : Cr428 and NGC 6997. See rev. B for more details.

The rendition is something like the Hubble palette (SHO) but using only Ha and OIII channels from the L-eXtreme dual band filter and combined in this way :
L = Red (Ha)
R = Red (Ha)
G = R*0.6+G*0.4
B = G (OIII)

Hope you enjoy this kind of mixed colors  ;-)

Clear skies,
Christophe
