Description

NGC 253
Caldwell 65
Sculptor Galaxy
Silver Coin
Silver Dollar Galaxy

The Sculpture Galaxy was discovered by Caroline Hershel in 1783 during her search for comets. It lies in the Sculpture Constellation and is so bright that it can be seen with binoculars on a clear night. The brightness and size of this galaxy makes this one of the most popular galaxy targets. Its most unique features are the unusually dense dust lanes making it difficult to trace the spiral arms.
