Description

The Iris nebula is a reflection nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. As the name "reflection nebula" implies, it consists of dense clouds of dust that are illuminated by a bright star – in this case a very young star that shines in a strong bluish hue. Research has shown that the dust clouds of the Iris nebula contain complex organic molecules.

I took this image from my inner city balcony in Munich, Germany, which makes it quite hard to make the faint dust clouds stand out from the starry background. In order to get as much signal as possible from the dust, I combined the luminance subs with the RGB subs into one synthetic luminance channel.
