Description

I made some mistakes during data acquisition, using two different exposures for subs. Combining these data sets into a single image was a little tricky, but the result ended up ok.

This is as interesting Arp catalog object composed of two galaxies that are strongly interacting and very close to one another. Seeing was pretty good, so some thin dust lanes showed up around the nuclei of both galaxies along with some bright bluish star forming regions, the largest of which is right between the two galaxies. The overall shape of the galaxy pair reminds me a bit of a fiddler crab, with the one enlarged galaxy arm sweeping below the larger galaxy.

The galaxy pair is receding from us at 5882 km/s, based on redshift measurements from back in 2000. The velocity works out to a redshift of z=0.01982. Using a Hubble constant of 70km/s/mpc (an average of the 72 and 68 values derived from different lines of current research), the distance to this pair is about 84 megaparsecs, or about 274 million light years away from us. If this distance is right, the longest axis, which goes through both galaxy nuclei, is about 190,000 light years long.
