Description

Stellarium reports the magnitude of the Wizard Nebula at 7.2, and while that may not be very dim, the complex is "complex", filled with much darker structures that require a lot of light gathering to develop. Techniques such as Ortonization and multi-curves adjustment are not enough to bring it out.  Recording the Wizard began two nights ago and was intended to be a one-night project using a SCT set for 1240 focal length at F 6.9 with its reducer/corrector and shooting on a Player One Ares-M using ZWO LRGB filters.  However, nights are short now in the north, with less than 7 hours of full darkness.  All of one night turned out to be not enough, and I shot it again last night.  This image is the result of two nights of gathering photons with the big light bucket that is a SCT in an area very near Bortle 1.  This DSO still needs more signal, and I am thinking I should spend another night on it with just the L filter, and possibly a fourth night with just the Oiii filter.
