Description

NGC 5248 is a barred spiral galaxy visible in the constellation Bootes, of tenth magnitude and dimensions 6.2'x4.5'.
It is a quite showy galaxy but it seems to be little considered by astrophotographers: even here on Astrobin there are not many images.
NGC 5248 has a bright nucleus crossed by a bar, from which two rather weak main spiral arms depart, plus other secondary arms; its diameter is estimated to be 123,000 light years, so it is a galaxy slightly larger than our Milky Way
