Description

Messier 106
Messier 106 or NGC 4258 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is estimated to be 23 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 125'000 light years. In 1995, Brent Tully et al. described that the centre emits a jet which should be related to the massive central object of this galaxy discovered in the same year. This central object is probably a black hole of almost 40 million solar masses.

NGC 4217
NGC 4217 is an edge-on spiral galaxy which lies approximately 60 million light-years away in the constellation of Canes Venatici. It is a possible companion galaxy to Messier 106.
