Description

This is the first image I took at the NightFall Star Party.  It was the first night and I realized while setting up that I wasn't going to be able to use a guide scope, as I didn't have enough counter weight to balance everything.  So the decision was made to use 1 minute subs for all deep sky images, and discard all subs where the stars were elongated more than 0.4.  For the duration of the star party, this reduced my yield of usable images to about 60 - 70 %.  That's actually better than I feared, given the weight and focal length of the Vixen ED115 refractor.  So an open cluster like M37 was the perfect target to see how well unguided imaging would work.  The result was encouraging enough that I continued imaging for the rest of NightFall.
