Description

A new discovery! An astrophotographer's dream come true!

On the 5th of August I took the first exposure of my biggest astro project so far. My goal was to reveal what no other amateur photographer and only the Subaru telescope in Japan have managed to reveal. The faint supernova remnants around NGC7129.

I started with my color camera and my dual narrowband filter. After 30hrs I couldn't see any of it. So I decided to try it again with my new mono camera and the Antlia 3nm Ha filter. After 50hrs I finally managed to reveal it. But wait... on the left of my image was a tiny fuzzy patch of hydrogen. @rebula_astrophoto  immediately pointed out, it could be much more than just that. Luckily I also had those 30hrs of Oiii which contained weak signal at this spot. With the central star being a white dwarf too, it started to get very clear that this had to be a planetary nebula. @rebula_astrophoto  confirmed that it isn't part of any database he found. So we submitted it as new candidate and now it's official:

We discovered a new nebula and it now carries our names!
