K 164 + 31.1 is a planetary nebula visible in the northern part of the Lynx constellation.
Like many other planetary nebulae, its structure and shape are due to the expansion of a shell of gas ejected from a dying star; in the center is a white dwarf, whose ultraviolet radiation excites and illuminates the envelope of gas, which is mainly composed of hydrogen, which gives the characteristic red color, while the blue / cyan areas are due to the presence of oxygen.
It is located approximately 1,600 light-years away from us.

K 164 + 31.1 è una nebulosa planetaria visibile nella parte settentrionale della costellazione della Lince.
Come molte altre nebulose planetarie, la sua struttura e la sua forma sono dovute all'espansione di un guscio di gas espulso da una stella morente; al centro si trova una nana bianca, la cui radiazione ultravioletta eccita ed illumina l'involucro di gas, che è composto principalmente di idrogeno, che conferisce il caratteristico colore rosso, mentre le aree blu / ciano sono dovute alla presenza dell'ossigeno.
Si trova a circa una distanza di 1.600 anni luce da noi.
