Description

A quick shot of one of my favorite visual clusters with the Edge 9.25.  I decided to give it some context with the wider field of the RASA. I find the dark nebula with this part of the Milky Way to be intriguing for only 1 hrs worth of integration. GHS stretch for this image.

M11 is a compact open cluster of an estimated 2900 stars in the constellation of Scutum. It is an intermediate aged cluster at 250 million years old and is located 6,000 light years from earth. The name comes from visual appearance in a telescope that resembles a flock of ducks lifting off from a pond.
