Description

There was VERY thick fog on the night of the conjunction. I couldn't see the bright planet Mars next to the Moon at all with the naked eye, nor with binoculars when I looked. I could see the limb of the Moon, however, so decided to pull out my 8" SCT and Canon T3i to see if I could get an image. I had to guess at the polar alignment, so at this large focal length, the Moon and planet were visibly drifting through the field of view. Nonetheless, I did shoot a few short (10 second) videos as the fog came and went in front of the pair. This shot was recorded at the point of closest approach between the two. I stacked and processed the best 20%, of the frames captured, i.e. 60 frames, to produce this image.
