Description

Not much imaging happening this summer for me between cloudy nights and clear nights that are filled with western fire smoke/haze. The hand full I have had were spent imaging this large supernova remnant with my new wide-field rig. Switching the broadband filters over to the Astronomiks Deep-Sky made a huge difference dealing with the CA in the blue channel caused by this reducer / corrector for this scope. So I am really happy I have a working solution since the this setup is giving me a really large flat field with well corrected stars to the edge of my 8300 based camera. Eventually I will get a bigger chip, so we will see if that holds true, but for now a 275mm FL scope @ f/4.5 is pretty wide with this chip and there are a ton of objects to image! Processing was pretty straight forward. I ended up collecting all NB channels, but in the end liked the looks of bicolor HOO for this over the the traditional Hubble pallet. So I did not use the 10hrs of SII data. This is the first time using drizzle on an image. With this camera pixel size and the image scale, the stars were pretty blocky. So using the default drizzle integration settings produced some pretty pleasing stars and the file sizes/processing time was not too bad. The only other big hurdle for me was adding in the RGB data I collected for star colors into the NB image. I used a star mask on the RGB image and the pixel math'd the NB image into the RGB. There was some back and forth tweaking of the NB and the star mask to get the background and the stars looking good, but in the end I am happy.
