Description

The Beehive Cluster (NGC2516, Caldwell 96).This is an open star cluster in the constellation Carina and is a distance of around 1,700 light years from earth. It contains 2 red giants and 3 double stars. Discovered by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 175 using by todays standards an unbelievably small ½-inch refractor.
