Description

Here's my submission for NASA's Astrophoto Challenge for the Winter 2023 season - The Pillars of Creation within M16, The Eagle Nebula.

A star is born. Here within the Eagle Nebula, gas clouds of mainly ionized hydrogen are collapsing under their own weight to give birth to stars. Made famous by Hubble's Pillars of Creation of 1995, JWST aimed its mirrors at this same stellar nursery last year to obtain infrared data and capture the warmth of the stars and gas.

Processed from the NASA JWST data available through MAST. Filters used for image:
F090W
F187N
F335M
F444W

Processed using PixInsight, my first time using this software.
Stars registered and dynamic crop applied.
Stacked using Pixel Math with transform of filters to RGB channels by:
Red = F444 + 0.5*F335Green = F187 + 0.1*F335Blue  = F187 + F090
Dynamic cropped stacked result. Applied curves, EZ Denoise, Starnett++ to create star mask.
Curves applied to starless, star mask added back. HT to composite.
