This image was constructed using 2 panels from my Cygnus summer mosaic. It features another prominent, but rarely imaged and huge supernova remnant called G65.3+5.7. The brightest parts have a Sharpless catalog number; Sh2-91, Sh2-94 and Sh2-96. Why don’t we see this object more often? My guess is many photographers just do not have setups with a large enough field of view to consider this target.
I processed this version with bin2 and heavy noise reduction, not my usual approach. The fine nebula filaments are much easier to see without stars, as you can see in the revisions. I wish I had more H-alpha data to bring out finer details in the red shark-fin in the top right (Sh2-96), but I guess it’s not a bad result for such a small setup and relatively shallow integration.
Upon initial inspection, the data appeared to be very noisy in some spots. Turns out I was looking at individual stars, not noise! The star field here is incredibly dense and these two panels were often very hard to register correctly. Probably because the alignment algorithms were struggling with the massive amount of stars.
