Description

This planetary nebula, also known as PK053.8-3.0, is located 9000 light years away in the constellation of Sagitta at a declination of +17 degrees.  It is a magnitude 17 PN which spans 0.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 1.8 light years.

The HII signal is slightly stronger than the OIII signal throughout the nebula.  The shape of this PN is unique, like a broad X superimposed over the normal circular shape.  The nebula appears to extend downward towards the small star below it.   SIMBAD indicates that the progenitor star is the bright whitish blue star at the center.
