Description

Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635 / Sharpless 162 / Caldwell 11)
  • Type: Emission Nebula
  • Distance: Approximately 7,100 light years from Earth
  • Size: About 7 light years in diameter
  • Apparent size: 15 x 8 arc minutes
  • Apparent magnitude: 11.0
  • Age: Unknown
  • Constellation: Cassiopeia

The Bubble Nebula is formed by the stellar winds of a massive hot young central star. It can be found in the constellation Cassiopeia, in the northern sky and is visible year-round from my location.

The Bubble Nebula is an emission nebula. The central star is energizing the atoms around it, causing the nebula itself to glow. This nebula is around 8000 light years from Earth. The "young" central star is estimated to be around 4 million years old.

This image needs more integration time for sure, but I wanted to see what I had with just under two hours. With limited integration time it's still pretty noisy since I'm shooting in narrowband. The color palette is custom, a bit closer to HOO. This may change when I find time to capture more subs.
