Description

This emission nebula is a popular summer and autumn target. It’s bright and large, even too large for my telescope, I had to photograph this as a 2-panel mosaic. A spectacular blue light pillar emerges from the core and there are lots of dark dust filaments scattered across the frame to provide contrast. Sh2-132 contains in fact 2 Wolf-Rayet stars: WR153 illuminates the yellow area, while the blue bottom is illuminated by the radiation from WR152.

Definitely not my best dataset, and I found this target very hard to process. The area around WR152 appears to have an unusually high ratio of OIII to Ha and color balance was all over the place.

Both the OIII and SII channels were relatively bright around WR153, which enabled me to obtain a range of blue, yellow and red hues in a classic SHO palette around the central shock front. Below is a close-up of the nebula with the position of Wolf-Rayet star WR153 highlighted.
