Description

I love dark nebulas, but I do not seem to capture very often.  Last night I had dark skies and a mostly moonless night so I was looking for a good broadband target and came across this lovely area of space.  I know several of you have already captured this target, so I thought I'd give it a crack.

This is a blue reflection nebula known as vdB (stands for Van Den Bergh) 152 that glows nicely next to dark Bok globule called Barnard 175.  This complex, is also called Wolf’s Cave and spans about 7 light-years and is located about 1,400 light years-away from Earth in the northern constellation of Cepheus.

Sidney van den Bergh’s Catalog of Reflection Nebulae, created in 1966, contains 158 reflection nebulae. Barnard 175 was cataloged by E. E. Barnard who compiled a list of 182 dark nebula in 1919, this was latter revised to 369 in 1927.
