My Home Observatory

Description

Decided, that it was worth the effort building my own ROR observatory in my garden. My wife was ok with it but it had to be in the same style and look as our garden shed (I built this also).

For those of you with a keen eye, I decided against a pier. I didn’t really want to drop a load of cement into the ground and felt it wasn’t needed. Many people use their tripods, why would I not continue to use mine. Anyway since finishing this a few weeks ago, the weather has been terrible but the little good weather I have had, I have used and there have been no issues with vibration from the structure (we’ll see what that is like when I get a higher FL scope).

Future upgrades will be to motorise the roof and have it controlled by software as well as adding a vent to control temperature and humidity.

It’s been a short and sharp interesting project that required some fast talking with my wife and eldest daughter.

It has saved me a lot of time already and given me a few more hours of data I would not have captured.
