Description

The Thor's Helmet Nebula, also known as NGC 2359, is an emission nebula located in the constellation of Canis Major. It gets its name due to its resemblance to the helmet of the Norse god Thor. This nebula is an active star-forming region, where interstellar gas and dust are compressed and heated by the radiation from young, massive stars within it. NGC 2359 is a stellar wind nebula, sculpted by the intense wind from a Wolf-Rayet central star, a rare and extremely massive class of stars in the final stages of their lives. The complexity and beauty of the Thor's Helmet Nebula make it a fascinating target for scientific studies on stellar formation and evolution.
