Description

Here is our new deep sky target, imaged from a remote observatory in Portugal, Alentejo by AstroDarkTeam composed of Pascal Gouraud and Stéphane Rolland. A total exposure of 75 hours  was achieved between October 09 and December 19,  2023

Thanks again to the French Astro ARO team for the efficient management of this superb site which hosts us.

IC 410 is an emission nebula located in the nebula-rich constellation Auriga at an estimated distance of 12,000 light-years. This cloud shines, because its atoms are excited by the radiation of the stars of the NGC 1893 cluster. These young stars, only 4 million years old, spit out strong stellar winds which also sculpt two cosmic tadpoles. These are curious structures made of denser gas and dust. They are about 10 light-years long and are likely sites of ongoing star formation. Their heads are outlined by bright edges of ionized gas while their tails trail away from the cluster's central region.
