One Year Later

Well here we are, back in Montreal where it all began.

A year ago today, I decided I should rent a telescope to check out the Mars opposition. I didn't want to spend too much money.....

I'm not really sure what to say about this particular piece. I mean its NGC 7000. It's been done to death. I figure if you are going to do a common target its best to do it right. I'm hoping I achieved that. In addition, we also have the Pelican Nebula! I think overall I have a pleasant wide field shot here.

This is my first start to finish monochrome work. My sad Telescope Live days are over for now! It's really not the same unless you are the one sitting out there collecting that data.

I will be sticking to bin 2x2 from here on out in Montreal. While I think I could do 1x1 with dark skies; even with narrowband the light pollution is just too much for this little 40mm scope set-up. I had to resample it to above the 2x2 pixel scale to make it look nice anyways.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
