Description

NGC6723 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Sagittarius at a distance of around 28,400 light-years away from Earth.

To put that sort of distance into perspective, the New Horizons space probe is the fastest probe we've ever sent into space. It travels at a speed of around 58,400km/h. At that speed, it would take New Horizons 577,136,735 years to reach NGC6723.

Captured using the Telescope Live CHI-2 astrograph located at the El Sauce Observatory in the Rio Hurtado Valley in Chile, South America, the final image comprises 1hr 30mins of broadband data.

The final image took several hours to achieve as I experimented with some new post-processing techniques in PixInsight and attempted to retain some of the details in the surrounding dust clouds.
