Description

This was  just an experiment to see what result I could achieve in the most primitive way possible without using any specific astrophotography gear.
For that reason, I used my old, non-astro-modified Canon 6D without any filters and a 50mm lens (Nifty Fifty). I then mounted it on a slightly modified (I blocked the freewheel in one direction) mechanical timer switch, hoping that the camera wouldn't fall off.
To my astonishment, it actually worked pretty well. Once the humongously huge backlash was overcome and the gears finally engaged after wating for about 10min, it started tracking.
For the given lens and pixel-size combo, even longer subs of 2 or 3 minutes should work.

I wonder if anyone else has ever tried to mistreat a timer switch the way I did? :-)
