Description

I have a lot of random image data from 2020 and 2021 that still I haven't processed yet. I have been trying to catch up some this year. Here is a decent image of Arp 90 comprised of data I captured for back in April and May of 2021. There is a large blue low surface brightness irregular galaxy UGC 9857 (PGC 55095) photobombing the scene too.

The interacting galaxies NGC 5929 and 5930 at the upper right together form the Arp 90. Their redshift of a z=0.008506 indicates a recession velocity of around 2600 km/sec. Using the usual Hubble flow calculation, this puts them a distance of around 120 million light years. Assuming this distance, the larger NGC 5930 with dimensions of 93x40 arc seconds should be about 55000 light years across, while the smaller NGC2929 (30x30 arc seconds) is more like 18000 light years across.

UGC 9857 at z=0.07599 (receding at 2355 km/sec) appears to a be a little in the foreground at around 110 million light years and given its dimensions of 73x26 arc seconds should be about 39000 light years across in its longer dimension. It looks pretty irregular, so its true shape and dimensions are difficult to determine.
