Description

NGC 2070 'The Tarantula Nebula" (30 Doradus) is the most vigorous star forming region known in the local Universe. This wonderful object is in the southern sky and clearly visible to the naked eye as a large patch of milkiness (i don't think thats actually a word!). It is ~170,000 light years away in a Large Magellanic Cloud with astronomers believing that this smallish irregular galaxy is currently going through a violent period in its lifecycle. This is a common target for Astrophotographers and one that I had intended to take when starting Astro last year. So here she is...in all of her glory!
