Description

M81 + M82 (UMa) – a little deep sky after long

The image data for this image was taken in the night from 20230309 to 20230310. Coming home from a walk, the evening sky looked unexpectedly good near the zenith So I spontaneously decided to capture this high target. A little further away, clouds and a milky atmosphere could still be seen everywhere.

The first 60s test photo looked surprisingly good: I could easily see the spiral arms of 'M81' on the tablet which was connected via VNC to my Astroberry (Raspberry Pi 4). After focusing and polar alignment, I started as early as I could. But after just a few frames, the signal strength dropped because fine veils came in again at high altitude. Soon after, the still very bright moon joined them ...

I continued anyway because the really good nights are rare and I take what I can get. Right after 'that' night, in the next morning, the sky has been thick for now ... it even starts snowing again. From the weather conditions I can only vaguely hope that there will be nice days and good nights around the next new moon.
