Description

Portion of dark nebula in the constellation Cepheus: LDN 1217 (also known as Barnard 175). LDN 1217 is a Bok globule, a region where dust condenses to form protostars. The dark nebula is dimly illuminated by ultraviolet light, producing a reddish glow characteristic of extended red emission (ERE) nebulae.

at one end of the nebulos aoscura appears the blue reflection nebula, vdB 152 (aka Cedarblad 201). The reflection nebula is illuminated by the bright star embedded within it. Curiously, though, the star's movement in space indicates that it did not form from the condensing nebula, but rather is passing through the nebula.

All around the area is dense with stellar dust.
