Description

This is my secend attempt of the Elephants Trunk nebula IC1396. I finally managed to buy the SII and OIII Astronomik filters that matches with my Ha filter that is made by this company. The result are 7 filters in my filter wheel (LRGB Ha OIII SII) made of the same brand that are parfocal. They ARE better than the Optolongs I used so far, but the difference is not huge. But I won't get those strange halos around the stars anymore, that came from the different filter curves and bandwiths.

I also have to say "Thank you" to all the users that responded to my question about counterweights and guiding performance. I finally managed to reduce the average guiding error of my 8" f/4 Newton from 0.8 Pixel average to about 0.2 pixel. I added another counterweight and brought the center of mass closer to the mount. There may still be room for improvements, but the quality of the subs is much better now. It is much easier to process the final image.

Getting the subs for this image was a bit of a pain. In the evening, the sky was clear. During the night, fog came along and made imaging impossible. In the end, it took me 4 nights to collect the data for this 9 hour exposure. Sadly, the data of the first night was unusable due to a problem with my mount.
