Description

It is an H II region with a diameter of 77 light-years, located about 8,800 light-years distant. It is located in the Perseus Arm, one of the main spiral arms of the Milky Way, in correspondence with the OB Cassiopeia OB5 association, which includes some open clusters and nebulae, such as Sh2-172 and Sh2-177. It contains a large number of young stars, of which there would be at least 7 among the main ones responsible for the ionization of gases, the hottest of which is cataloged as BD + 60 39, a blue star of spectral class O9V; it would be part of a large star-forming region located near the Cas OB5 association, to which neighboring nebulae are also connected, as well as the open clusters NGC 103 and the radio wave source KR 98, more the dark nebula LDN 1282 .
