Description

Out of this Whirl!

M51 or the Whirlpool galaxy at a staggering 31 million light years away from us captured from my backyard!

When light from this galaxy started its journey towards earth and my camera, earth was in the Oligocene Epoch of the Paleogene Period. This period marked a time of significant global cooling, with the Antarctic ice sheet starting to form and the first appearance of many modern mammal families.

Few other galaxies show up here. IC4263 at 129 million light years away. IC4278 at 230 million light years away and IC4277 at an astonishing 548 Million light years away from us. 550 million years ago, Earth was transitioning into the Cambrian period. There were no recognizable continents, and the climate fluctuated between ice ages and warmer periods. The oceans were rich with simple life forms, and the emergence of complex multicellular organisms was underway

From dark gas clouds to pink star nurseries and brilliant blue star clusters, each element tells a story of galactic evolution and star formation ✨. Some astronomers believe its prominent arms are shaped by its interaction with NGC 5195, a small galaxy passing behind it. I call it the cosmic ballet!
