Description

I took the small Meade 70mm telescope with me when I went to Death Valley for some exploring and ended up taking a picture of this nebula and sleeping in the car! Video available on Youtube.com/galactichunter

Sadly due to some technical issues, I was only able to spend about 2 and a half hours on this object. A shame!

Anyway, this is called the Blue Horsehead Nebula (can you see the shape? 🐴). It is just a bunch of gases being illuminated by very bright blue giant stars, making the gas appear blue and vibrant. This is one of my favorite nebulae!
