Description

NGC6946, customarily known as the Fireworks Galaxy, is seen face on from our perspective and pictured here in the lower right part of the image. Due to its position between the constellations of Cygnus and Cepheus and close to the galactic plane of the Milky Way its light is greatly diminished by dust. Some of this dust shows up as clouds of IFN (integrated flux nebula), meaning it is illuminated not by individual stars but by the aggregated starlight of our own galaxy. In the upper left area of this image we can see the very old open star cluster NGC6939.

Data for this image was collected over three (short) nights in June 2023 from my Bortle 7 balcony in Munich, Germany. I hope you like it!
